Author of "Breve Relacion"

FR. JUAN DE STO. DOMINGO, O.P. Born in Spain in 1640, he arrived in the Philippines in 1666, and lived here for sixty years until his death in 1726. He was missionary in Pangasinan, Prior of Santo Domingo Convent, twice Prior Provincial of the Holy Rosary Province and President of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Wise and prudent, humble yet energetic, profoundly human and exquisitely sensitive, a man of deep faith, discerner of spirits, his main title to fame and veneration was his having nurtured the first Beaterio of the Philippines from its inception through its infancy.

Nobody knew the foundress, Mother Francisca del Espiritu Santo, better than he. Nobody could write about that saintly woman and about the foundation better than he. For he put all his soul in that spiritual enterprise. The story of the foundation is his memoirs, part of his autobiography. He experienced personally and intimately the joys and travails of the foundation. And the story ends with the death of the Foundress.

Father Santo Domingo's Breve Relacion is one of the most captivating and fascinating narratives that can be read about a religious foundation in seventeenth century, Philippines.
